Why it is accurate
A chart is only useful if the letters have the right size at the right distance. That is where Optotype TV starts.
The real size of the letters
The app computes height in millimetres, not pixels. On the 10/10 line, a letter is about 7.3 mm tall at 5 m.
Resolution and distance
The higher the resolution, the sharper the fine lines. Below Full HD, lines that are too fine are flagged. The patient-to-screen distance is set and measured.
Ruler calibration
The screen shows a 200 mm ruler: you measure it, enter the value, and the app corrects the size of every optotype.
No calibration guarantees absolute accuracy: screen quality, 1:1 picture mode and distance matter too.

The delivered screen can be used for more than exams. Outside exams, you can use it in your window or shop to show your promotions, your glasses offers or a presentation of your practice. Optotype TV also provides a customisable screensaver with your practice's text and image.
To play advertising videos, use the playback app of your choice on the screen.
Frequently asked questions
Is internet required?
No. The app works offline, activation included. The practice's local Wi-Fi is only used for the smartphone remote.
Is patient data sent anywhere?
No. The app opens no outgoing connection. The history stays on the device, encrypted. The practice remains responsible for the data it records.
How does activation work?
Without a code, the app runs in a limited demo mode (letters only, no PDF). The screen shows the device identifier; you receive a code tied to that device, which you enter with the remote or paste from your phone. Verification is done offline. After a factory reset, a new code is needed.
Can a monitor be used?
Yes, if the app runs on the connected device (screen, box or a mini-PC over HDMI) and the real image size is calibrated. A small screen shows fewer large lines: check the minimum displayable acuity. [to be confirmed for your hardware]
What if the resolution is below Full HD?
The app shows a warning and greys out lines too fine to be drawn properly (stroke under 2 pixels). First check the screen's output resolution; a 4K screen or a longer distance (5 to 6 m) helps for high acuities.
Can the screen be used for anything other than the exam?
Yes. Outside exams, you can play your shop's advertising on it with another app. Optotype TV also offers a custom screensaver.
